General Discussion / Re: Dolphins defense is playing respectable

It turned out the Dolphins had a respectable season on D and the secondary was the leaset of their problems.  Their problems remain on offense and a general inability to put up a consistant 24 pt average on the board.  This has been the case for the past decade.  We'll see if Tannehill is the answer, but I'm not expecting much from yet another change in offense with Lazor as OC.  He can't be any worse than Sherman.  Or can he?

The Dolphins have not been healthy on defense this season. I'm most disappointed in that our rookie corners have not been healthy enough to get on the field more as we'll need more from them next year when we lose Grimes.

In the Saints game, we're down 34 to 10 btw, they are doing things much like the Falcons did. Short passes w run after catch except Brees is way better than Ryan. Then ya gotta look at Tannehill fumbling (the ball was knocked out from behind after he had gained 6 or 7 yards) He's getting pressured heavily. We can't stop their passing game for spit! Nolan Carroll is bad. BAD! Unless he is playing hurt.........

But it's only one game. We still have a young QB who will eventually take better care of the ball. Next draft thhey better put Ireland in a shipping crate bound for Borneo, then draft some great offensive linemen. We sure could have used one or two THIS YEAR!

Of course....another way to beat New England is hope all their unsigned players sign with other teams and some may even get put in jail.......

General Discussion / Re: Time to raise the bar for Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill

If money is not an issue then what is it? Contract length? Does Leach want a contract for 1 year or 3-4?

Wonder if the Phins are in a stalemate with they want 1 year and he wants more or vice versa.

btw I haven't heard anything about Vonta Leach. If he signs with us it will boost our offense considerably.

Yesterday, during an appearance on ESPN's NFL32, Chris Mortensen said Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill has created the most "buzz" this offseason. Can he back it up when the play starts?

As the NFL offseason continues to drag on, rumors and speculation rule the day. From possible free agent signings (Vonta Leach?) to potential contract disputes (Rehsad Jones?) to roster overhaul (Mike Wallace, Dannell Ellerbe, Brent Grimes, etc.), a lot of things around the Miami Dolphins have created buzz this offseason. According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, no quarterback in the league has generated more buzz than Ryan Tannehill.

Appearing on ESPN's NFL32, Mortensen points to the praise coming from the Miami receivers about Tannehill's downfield accuracy and how quickly he is getting rid of the ball.

Tannehill threw for a franchise rookie record 3,294 yards last year, with 12 touchdowns. However, he also was picked off 13 times, with a 58.3% completion rate. Those numbers have to improve for Tannehill, if the Dolphins are going to succeed with all of their new weapons.

Today ESPN's Ron Jaworski backed up Mortensen's observations after watching Tannehill's game tape from last year. According to Jaws, Tannehill "showed a lot of positive traits" in 2012, despite the lack of receiving weapons around him. Tannehill displayed an ability to "subtly move within the pocket to avoid pressure."

In just his first year in the league, "Tannehill was very good at throwing with bodies around him," what Jaws calls "a muddied pocket." He continued, describing the subtle movements and dealing with a crowded pocket as "advanced NFL quarterbacking."

Jaws did point to the Miami quarterback's third down performance last season as an area that must be improved. Tannehill had "the worst rating od all starting quarterbacks, including seven of his 13 interceptions" on third down.

The Dolphins are expecting big strides forward from Tannehill, who they selected with the eighth overall pick in the 2012 Draft. He became the Dolphins' first rookie quarterback to start opening day, and led the team throughout the season, only missing a portion of one game due to injury.

The Dolphins added several receiving threats to the roster this year, including Wallace, Brandon Gibson, and tight end Dustin Keller. The team also re-signed last year's leading receiver Brian Hartline, and are looking to third year receiver Armon Binns to add something to the offense as well.

Miami opens the preseason in just over a month, playing the Dallas Cowboys in the Hall of Fame Game.

Yeah I wasn't exactly smitten with the pick either.  But that's our Jeffy. I hope this guy finds a good PED dealer and hits the weights hard to put some muscle on. He's gonna need it.

Since you made the above post we finally ended the phone tag thing. We talked and after much deliberation I decided to play ff again. I've got a lot of reading to do though. After not playing ANY ff for 2 years a lot has changed and especially this offseason there has been a lot of player/FA activity as well. See ya soon.
